Description: Playing with a metronome is an often overlooked component of improving as a guitarist or bassist. Ideally, a metronome should be used during any individual practice to help improve timing and counting skills. Developing a steady sense of time is critical to becoming a better musician, no matter what instrument you play. After all, music in general is composed of two components: pitch and time.
This CD was originally designed through my teaching of bass students. With all the effects pedals and other toys available, no one really seemed interested in spending $40-$70 on something that simply clicks. So, my solution was to put together a CD so my students could obtain the benefits of playing with a metronome without breaking the bank.
Now, the CD has been converted to a collection of MP3 files that can be downloaded instantly. All tracks have been encoded at 320 kbps to retain the original CD quality. Also included are PDF files to reprint the front insert and CD labels, so if you want an actual CD, you can burn one and print off all the labels.
All metronome tracks are recorded in stereo with the main click (cowbell-like) on both channels and a 4/4 downbeat accent (snare) on the left channel. Therefore, using the CD or MP3s in stereo or using the left channel only makes it a standard 4/4 count with accents on 1. Using just the right channel provides a steady tempo without accents, allowing these tracks to be used for other time signatures (3/4, 7/4, 5/4, 6/8, etc.). Any track can be set to repeat (depending on CD or media player) for unlimited practice at one tempo (NOTE: Some CD players with give an extra pause when the track repeats due to movement of the reading laser). The MP3 files have been tested in Windows Media Player and iTunes, where they should loop seamlessly.
